Meet The Locals host Nic Vallance gives a taste of what Seaweek is all about in this half-hour special, opening up our great natural resource.
New Zealand has three times as much ocean to its name as it does land and Nic goes in search of some of the great marine conservation stories up and down the country.
Tune in as she talks about preserving our oceans and explores the world-famous and sparkling waters of the Poor Knights marine reserve.
Seaweek is an annual event run by the NZ Association for Environmental Education that allows New Zealanders to come together and, celebrate the sea. It provides a wide range of opportunities for people to learn about our fantastic marine environment and share their experiences of the sea.
Seaweek is about exciting and inspiring all New Zealanders to renew their connection with the sea. It’s not just for children or those involved with formal education – it’s a time for all of us to get to know our ocean, its habits, characteristics and inhabitants.
A series of themes has been developed for Seaweek over the next five years, starting with 2010 – Fish for the Future!

Chad, June 2009Just a quick note to say thanks again for the GREAT day of diving off Poor Knights! I can see why that area was so highly rated by Jacque. It was so great to get back in the water after 4 years. Your professional service and attention to details were the best I have seen since I have been diving. The background on the islands and the plant and animal life was also a nice twist.
Thanks especially to Hemi for running over the basic dive drills and making me feel safe and confident back in the water. If I ever make it back to NZ, I will definitely come out again. I will also let any diving buddies heading that way to look you guys up.
