Turtle and Manta - Easterly brings in the goods.

A 4 metre wide manta, and a turtle were both spotted today, as the easterly swell, and the blow proves its mettle with the flow in of offshore and pelagic visitors.

Calypso was in Trevor’s and Meditation today, and as they cruised the islands, a manta was spotted just off Jan’s Tunnel.

Instructor Laurent jumped in with Chris, and they were both mimicking a barrel roll as they snorkeled about two metres above the manta. They were in the water for about 20 minutes and Laurent took these cool shots.

The easterly wind and swell pattern this week has not stopped us from diving at the Islands, and the rewards have been great; awesome diving, 21 degrees on the surface and 20 metre visibility.

The East Auckland Current comes in closer, it brings its pelagic visitors with it.

Another one of the many reasons why the Poor Knights Islands are so very special.
