Waka ama, beautiful weather, snorkeling, masses of schooling fish, Republic of Tutukaka hats, ......there is a definite summer air in the town of Tutukaka on this Anniversary Weekend, the first time that Tutukaka has celebrated by declaring itself a Republic. Long live the Summer!
The Bo Herbert Memorial Waka Ama Race attracted more than 60 OC1s and paddlers in this challenging course, that takes in the beautiful Tutukaka Coast, some advanced stretches of water, natural reefs as turning buoys, and several chances to prove your mettle.
The relay and solo options included OC1 and OC2, Surfski and V1, with a 30-32 kilometre course.
The day saw paddlers leaving Kowharewa and heading to Goat Island, before Matapouri and then Whananaki, before heading back to Matapouri for the finish line.

Lorisa Facht – SwedenI really enjoyed the Perfect Day Cruise. Friendly crew, nice food and most importantly LOTS and LOTS of fish, and plenty of time to snorkel around at my own leisure. Not at all rushed as some other snorkeling excursions I’ve been on before in other places. I recommend everyone to take this cruise, it’s a really good alternative to diving.
